Arbutus - Mt. Maxwell

Circumference: 5.84 metres (19' 2")
Average Diameter: 1.86 metres (6' 1")
Date of Measurement: June 13, 2000.

This is the second largest circumference Arbutus I know of on Salt Spring Island. It is located on the lower west side of Mt. Maxwell. The circumference was measured just above the large branch on which Jean-Claude Catry is sitting. According to the British Columbia Register of Big Trees, the largest (circumference) Arbutus in British Columbia (Esquimalt) is 7.80 metres.
